Clarendon Day 2012 Brings Food, Fun

Clarendon Day was picture perfect with sunny skies, temperatures in the 70s, and lots of food, games and music.

“I love it because it’s a chance for kids to do activities and it’s good for adults because if there are services you are interested in they are all right here,” said Shayla Woodson, who brought her 9-year-old son to the festival. “It’s great to see everyone out here and see how diverse Arlington is.”

The 15th annual street festival attracted thousands of spectators who took over the streets surrounding the Clarendon Metro Station to enjoy the event.

Participants could sample everything from Tikka Masala at many of the Indian restaurant vendors to hot dogs and fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Kids enjoyed bounce houses, face painting and one ride that was especially popular which strapped the participant in a harness where they could bounce up and down like a yo-yo.

“I’m really impressed with the number of people here,” said Diane Melton, of Arlington. She was waiting in line for a ride for her granddaughter, Sloane.

“She thought the Indian lunch was great,” Melton said. “I think it’s wonderful to see all the families and all the singles out here. It’s really interactive.”
