Arlington County Under Winter Storm Watch Thursday

Forecasters say we could get five inches or more of snow in Clarendon, Courthouse, Rosslyn areas (22201, 22209) and throughout Northern Virginia.

A winter storm watch was issued for Northern Virginia by the National Weather Service.

The watch is in effect starting Thursday morning and will continue until late Thursday night.

Heavy snow is expected Thursday, with accumulations “in excess of five inches possible,” according to the weather service. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s, and northwest winds will be in the 5mph to 10mph range.

Arlington County sent out an alert about the watch Wednesday afternoon.

In Arlington, school closure announcements are made via a recorded telephone hot line at 1-866-322-4277, in English and in Spanish and on the Arlington Public Schools website. A decision on tomorrow's school closures hasn't been posted as of 1 p.m.
