Arlington Powerball Winner Accepts $1 Million Check

It was Joanna Wallace's first time playing the Powerball.

The excitement of last month’s record $587 Powerball drawing gave many Virginia residents reason to play Powerball for the first time.

Among them was Joanna Wallace, whose beginner’s luck made her $1 million richer.

Wallace was the only $1 million winning Powerball ticket sold in Northern Virginia.

Wallace’s first ever Powerball ticket, which she bought at the 7-Eleven at 5267 Lee Highway in Arlington, matched the first five numbers in the Nov. 28 Powerball drawing. Those first five numbers were 5, 16, 22, 23 and 29. (The Powerball, which Wallace did not match but two people in the United States did, was 6.)

Friday, Wallace went back to her lucky 7-Eleven and received her $1 million.
