Numbers to keep in handy in case the power goes out due to Hurricane Sandy.

Northern Virginia at the moment isn’t in the clear from Hurricane Sandy.

By Friday morning, Hurricane Sandy was a Category 1 hurricane with 80-plus-mile-per-hour winds according to the National Hurricane Center

Downed Trees

For more information on tree removal services after the storm

  • Adjacent to public roads: Contact Virginia Department of Transportation at 1-800-FOR-ROAD, TTY 711.
  • Call the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) at 703-558-2222 for after-hours emergencies to clear fallen trees or branches blocking streets or for downed power lines.
  • Call the DPR Forestry Maintenance Supervisor at 703-228-6525 for hazardous tree or hazardous branch removal involving trees on Arlington County property; for general maintenance of trees on Arlington County property; or for trees or branches have fallen on Arlington County property.
  • Private property: Removal is the property owner's responsibility. Be aware of the risk of chain saw injury during tree removal. Use a chain saw safely to clear debris. If a tree has hit your home, call your property insurance company before starting the removal process.
