9/11 Commemoration in Arlington

Residents and visitors invited to remember Sept. 11 at a ceremony overlooking the Pentagon.

Arlington County is hosting a 10-year anniversary remembrance of Sept. 11 at the Air Force Memorial on Saturday.

The 7:30 p.m. event will include performances by Wakefield High School's Madrigals choir, the Macedonia Baptist Church music ministry, and the Arlington County Combined Honor Guard. County Board Chairman Chris Zimmerman will also speak.

The U.S. Air Force Brass Quintet Ensemble and the Joint Armed Forces Color Guard will perform. Jim Laychak, president of the Pentagon Memorial Fund, whose brother was one of the 184 victims of the attack on the Pentagon, will give the commemorative speech.

"It's really just for people who want to do something to remember," said Arlington County parks and recreation spokeswoman Susan Kalish.

The Police-Sheriff-Fire 9/11 Memorial 5K will also be held Saturday, and the county is encouraging all property-, business- and homeowners to display the American flag during the week as part of Flags Across Arlington.
