'This Little Piggy' Went to the Fair

Clarendon woman hopes to grow home business.

The corner race track wasn't the only place to find a group of little piggies this weekend at the Arlington County Fair.

Smaller, quieter and more fragile piggies — decked out in decoupage — were in the air-conditioned vendor area, courtesy of local artist Jessica Blaszczak.

"It's fun," said Blaszczak, owner of This Little Piggy Market. "I've met a lot of people, sold a lot of piggies."

Blaszczak takes ceramic piggy banks and crafts them into one-of-a-kind, colorful keepsakes.

Decoupage is the art of using paper cutouts to decorate an object — and Blaszczak uses quite the variety in her work.

Blaszczak, who coordinated the 2012 Ballston Arts & Crafts Market, works out of her Clarendon home. Her piggies are available online and in select area stores, including Covet at 5140 Wilson Blvd.

Blaszczak said she takes her work to area arts and crafts show and ultimately hopes to grow This Little Piggy into a full-time business.
