Sweetleaf Cafe to Open in Courthouse

The cafe will open in January.

A successful eatery that got started in Fairfax County is now making its way to the Courthouse area.

Sweetleaf Café is opening at 2200 Wilson Blvd. in January and owners are going through the permitting process. They hope to have a grand opening on February 1.

“We have been looking for a location in Arlington for over a year and we finally found something that was a perfect fit for our concept,” said co-owner Andre Matini, who runs Sweetleaf with his mother, Sherry, and sister, Arita.

The location is opening up in the 2,100-square-foot spot formerly occupied by Hikaru Sushi. It is across near Arlington County offices and will have indoor and outdoor seating.

Matini describes the food as American deli style.

“It’s similar to a Panera where we have soup, salad, sandwiches,” Matini said. “We are going to be offering smoothies and fresh juice.”

The price point is $7 and under. Catering will also be available.

This will be the third Sweetleaf Café. The family also has locations in Vienna and McLean and a bakery called Sweet Stuff in the Great Falls area.

“I’m lucky in that my mom and my sister are partners with me to deal with the challenges,” Matini said.

They also have a Tyson’s Corner location in the works, but are still exploring leasing options for that location.
