Rosslyn Makes Way for Tallest Building in Washington Metro Area
New construction abounds in Rosslyn, Courthouse and Clarendon.
This past spring, Patch provided our readers with a couple of construction updates for , . Last month, we ran a of several of the active construction sites around town. Now, we're dishing up an update to the updates.
Robert Ruiz, an urban planner and researcher for Arlington County, provided a list of all the large-scale projects the government considers "approved" (indicated by an "A" on the chart below) and "under construction" (indicated by a "U" on the chart below) in these neighborhoods. Ruiz said the county does not consider a site officially under construction until it is above ground – past the excavation stage.
Arlington was not spared the slow-down of new construction throughout the United States during the recession, but Ruiz said new development is starting to pick up again.

"The fact that the Slate, Sedona, Gaslight Square and 1776 Wilson are under construction or getting readied for construction shows that there is pent-up demand for residential units and commercial space in Arlington," Ruiz said. "Similarly, the number of site plan submissions by developers are starting to pick up."
The following table was provided by Arlington County and lists the large-scale approved and under construction projects in Clarendon, Courthouse and Rosslyn. Be sure to watch our video (located directly above this article) for a tour of the list's highlights, including construction at 1812 N. Moore St., which will be home to the tallest building in the Washington metro area when it is finished, which should be in 2013.
