President Obama, First Lady Dine Out in DC Saturday Night

Which restaurant did they go to?

The first couple — President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama — dined out on the town Saturday night in D.C., according to the Associated Press.

Where did they go?

They chose Oyamel, 401 7th St. NW, which serves up Mexican food. The restaurant is a quick jaunt from the White House, about a mile away. It's located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood, between the White House and Capitol Hill.

The restaurant is the brainchild of José Andrés, chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup, and with partner Rob Wilder, is the team responsible for popular dining destinations in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Miami and Puerto Rico. José was named Outstanding Chef of the Year at the 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards.

The restaurant is famous for its fresh guacamole and its "salt air" margarita. See the menu here.

Some say the presidential dinner date was an early Valentine's Day celebration, since they will reportedly be apart Friday due to the President's schedule. (Here's Oyamel's special Valentine's Day menu.) Last year for Valentine's Day, the First Couple dined at minibar, another José Andrés restaurant.

The Obamas have dined in Georgetown, celebrating the first lady's birthday last year at Cafe Milano. The President has dined at 1789, in 2011, with German Chancellor Merkel. (Read here about other Georgetown restaurants where presidents have dined.)

When they're back at the White House, the Obamas' meals are overseen by White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford, who grew up in Manila. She is the first female to hold that title and also the first of Asian descent.

The Obamas have been known to cross the Potomac for a bite to eat, including at The Dairy Godmother, for frozen custard, The Majestic, to celebrate the birthday of Michelle Obama's mother, and Union Street Public House.
