A new vendor at the Clarendon Farmers Market is offering up a shaved ice desert, Taiwanese style.
“It’s a lot less sugar and not as heavy,” said Andrew Chiou, who started up the stand with friend Matt Parker.
The stand “Bing Bing” has only been up and running at the Clarendon market for the last few weeks. The toppings on the shaved ice change each week, from almond jelly and a bean paste to tapioca and mango.
“We try and add something more exotic each week,” Chiou said.
Both Chiou and Parker attended culinary school together. Chiou currently works at a local bakery.
“I wanted to start a restaurant but wanted to try it out at the farmer’s market first,” Chiou said.
The Clarendon Farmer’s Market is open Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. just outside the Clarendon Metro Stop.
