Arlington Chamber President Rich Doud to Retire After 23 Years

Arlington Chamber of Commerce President Rich Doud has announced he will retire in May after 23 years of service.

Doud, a 60-year resident of Arlington County and successful entrepreneur, joined the chamber in September 1990 and plans to exit his leadership role to spend more time with his wife, three adult children and two grandchildren — and a third grandchild is on the way.

“It is impossible to fully express the satisfaction I have experienced working to build a better Arlington and increase opportunities for businesses,” Doud said in a statement. “I appreciate being given the chance by this great organization and the incredibly capable people who comprise our membership and staff who have bettered the lives of many. The achievements of the Chamber over the past two decades have been collaborative efforts between members and staff.” 

Under Doud's leadership, the chamber created the Arlington Business Hall of Fame, developed a Community Action Committee to strengthen relationships between businesses and nonprofits, and founded Leadership Arlington, according to a news release.

Doud has participated in a number of community organizations, commissions and committees over the years, and he assisted with the publishing of "Where Valor Rests," a book about Arlington National Cemetery that is given to families at burials. 

Chamber Chairman Tim Hughes will lead a search committee to seek out candidates to succeed Doud as president.

A celebration to honor Doud's service will be announced at a later date.

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce has more than 1,800 members.
