Artisphere hosts an international artist exchange with Arlington's sister city Aachen, Germany for the second half of a cultural exchange. For ten days, visiting artists from Germany will work together with Arlington-area artists to create a site-specific installation within Artisphere. Their work spaces will be open to the public and will serve as a visual documentation of the exchange. The first part of the exchange took place in April 2011 when Arlington artists spent ten days in Aachen, Germany. The artists collaborated on site-specific installations in the Aula Carolina, a 17th-century monastery that now serves as a cultural center in the city. The work they created was on view at Aula Carolina for the week of the exchange, and has since traveled to other cities in Belgium and the Netherlands. The goals of the exchange are for artists to work collaboratively to create site-specific installations, to explore the differences and similarities in the artists’ situations, and to provide insight into cultural work of the two countries. Sponsored by dreieck.triangle.driehoek, Arlington Cultural Affairs, Arlington Sister City Association and Kulturbetrieb der Stadt Aachen
