The 6th annual Ecuadorian Film Showcase, organized by the Embassy of Ecuador, is a free weekly summer series that presents the latest award-winning documentaries and short films from Ecuador, kicking off this Wednesday, July 25th in Arlington, VA.
The Film Showcase is open to the public and this Wednesday’s premiere will feature a special complimentary reception beginning at 7:00pm, followed by remarks from the Ambassador of Ecuador to the United States, Nathalie Cely,a screening of Con mi Corazón en Yambo, and a live Skype Q&A with the Director and Writer, Maria Fernanda Restrepo.
Con mi Corazón en Yambo is a powerful and critically-acclaimed documentary about the contentious kidnapping and killing of two young Ecuadorian boys 1988. The story of Santiago and Nené Restrepo became famous in Ecuador, as the facts and testimonies point to the involvement of the country’s National Police Investigative Services (SIC) under the Febres Cordero presidency. Written and Directed by the boys’ sister, María Fernanda Restrepo, Con mi Corazón en Yambo is an intimate look into the Retrepo family’s fervent hope and undying dedication to investigating the truth.
