Looking Back: Biggest Arlington Stories of 2012 (July Through September)

2012 brought a mix of hyperlocal news and regionally-relevant events on both Clarendon-Courthouse-Rosslyn Patch and what is now Arlington Patch throughout the year.

Today we countinue rounding up the most-read stories on both sites from throughout 2012.

July — News about the June 29 derecho spilled over into July, as thousands of Northern Virginia residents waited days for electricity and full 911 service to return. In crime news, police investigated a murder-suicide and a 23-year-old woman was raped near the Four Mile Run trail. And toward the end of the month, a beloved Columbia Pike jewelry store owner was found shot to death.

August — August began with more than 200 people attending a candlelight vigil for 52-year-old Tommy Wong outside of his Columbia Pike jewelry store. Soon after, police arrested and formally charged James Sylvester Caroline with murder in connection to July's jewelry store shooting. Separately, a man from Washington reportedly sexually assaulted a woman at Whole Foods. On a lighter note, August also brought the ever-popular piglet races to the Arlington County Fair.

September — Business and crime news dominated in September, with readers especially excited about Naked Pizza opening in Ballston. On the crime front, a group of drunken partiers attacked the driver of their keg bus and an Arlington man reportedly took nude photos and videos of an exchange student.
