Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Here's a list of what's happening this Presidents Day Weekend.

It’s Thursday! Which can only mean one thing: the weekend is only a daaaaay aaaaa-waaaaaay (cue Annie). And this time – you’ve got three whole days of (fingers crossed) fun in the sun, relaxation, and checking out events happening in Arlington, the District, and the rest of Northern Virginia.

1.) Washington Design Center Sample Sale

When: Saturday, February 19, 10am – 3pm

Find out what's happening in Clarendon-Courthouse-Rosslynwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Where: 300 D Street Washington, D.C. 20024

Why go: Because you’ve been dying for a new sofa since your precious little Pekinese Mindy chewed the arms and made it not to so friendly (or asthetically pleasing) for all those dinner parties you’ve been wanting to host lately.

But more importantly, you want to go because they’re giving discounts up to 75%! Holy Cow. Shop showrooms at their annual luxury sample sale for furniture, rugs, accessories, gifts and more. Even if you’re not in the market for some new furniture, this is still something worth checking out.

Participating showrooms include: AmericanEye, Baker Snapp & Tubbs, Century Furniture, DSA Associates, Duralee, Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman, Galleria Carpets & Rugs, Henredon, Holland & Sherry, J. Asher Carpet Couture, J. Lambeth, LUXE Studio, Patterson Flynn & Martin, Pugrant, Robert Allen | Beacon Hill, Rist/Zoffany, Sample Sale Room/Art Gallery at The Washington Design Center, and WILLEMSMITH

Why go: Because you’ve been dabbling with the idea of going back to school and discovering your more creative side of life.

They’re hosting an open house this weekend where you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about their programs in Culinary, Design, Fashion, and Media Arts; tour their campus and facilities; interact with current students, faculty, and admissions staff; and learn about scholarships, grants and financial aid.

3.) The Dubliners at Wolf Trap

When: Saturday, February 19 @ 7:30pm

4.) In honor of Presidents Day Weekend…

Celebrate Washington’s 279th Birthday at Mount Vernon

Where: George Washington Parkway, Mount Vernon

Why go: Because you love George Washington almost as much as the gorgeous countryside in Mount Vernon and want to take part in celebrating his 279th Birthday all weekend long. The weekend leads up to a huge birthday party extravaganza on Monday (Presidents Day) that will include spirited military demonstrations, a special “Surprise Birthday Party,” and a moving wreath laying ceremony at Washington’s tomb.

Pricing: FREE on Presidents Day, February 21! Otherwise: Adults - $15.00; Senior Citizens, age 62 and above are $14.00; Children ages 6 through 11 (accompanied by an adult) are $7.00; Children ages 5 and under (accompanied by an adult) are FREE; and an Annual Pass (unlimited admission for one year) is $25.

Madame Tussaud Unveils Wax Figurines of All 44 Presidents

Where: 1025 F Street, NW, Washington, DC (closest Metro stations are Metro Center and Gallery Place/Chinatown)

Why go: Because you’ve been looking for any excuse to go to Madame Tussauds and wax figures are always creepy, in a super interesting and intriguing way, especially when they’re of deceased Presidents.

Madame Tussauds has a new $2 million+ US Presidents Gallery of lifelike wax figures for all 44 presidents. Each figure took about three to four months to complete and includes an immense amount of detail. MT’s is the only place in the world with such wax figurines.

5.) REMINDER: National Harbor Restaurant Week

When: February 15 – 27
