Get Mad Men Style at Home

You can get the look of the hit show Mad Men in your own home with a few choice pieces.

The cool mid-century modern style that informed the set designers of the hit show Mad Men has become as popular as the drama’s chauvinistic lead characters.

If you want to create that swanky style in your home, look no further than area stores.

Perhaps the most stylish set is the Manhattan office of advertising executive Don Draper. To get this look start with a mid-century modern inspired sofa with clean lines, like the Petrie Sofa at Crate and Barrel. With its tufted and buttoned cushions, this classic looks great in any fabric, but to replicate Draper’s office, chose a burnt orange or brown. The same sofa in neutral tones is suitable for the New York apartment of Pete Campbell.

Like Roger Sterling’s glam minimalist office? Get this look with a pedestal table or a replica of the tulip from Design Within Reach, one of the area’s best emporiums for designer mid-century modern.

Although known for its traditional American classics, Ethan Allen at Market Commons has a Jericho chair that would look right at home in Peggy Olson’s office.

If you prefer the prissy upstate New York digs of the former not so happily married Don and Betty Draper, try the Azure sofa at Crate and Barrel.

No mid-century modern living room is complete without a great credenza. Look for clean lines, simple look, such as the Cirque at Crate and Barrel. These work great as sideboards in small spaces and are an excellent place to display barware, stable in every office at Sterling Cooper Draper and Pryce.

Great furniture pieces are the foundation for a Mad Men inspired room, but to add authenticity check out resale or thrift shops like the Corner Cupboard on Washington Blvd. This is a great place for vintage barware. There you'll find high ball glasses, vintage art as well as lamps.

You can also purchase industrial office supplies at Pottery Barn like their replica 1960s telephones.
