Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday

We "fall back" this coming weekend. What will you do with your extra hour?

Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 a.m.

This means you will "fall back" and set your clocks back one hour. Daylight saving begins again on March 10, 2013.

That extra hour gives you a chance to get out in Northern Virginia and have some fun, or get some extra sleep.

Metro announced Friday that it will close Sunday at 3 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Metro explained in a tweet: "Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m. it becomes 1:00 a.m.The Metrorail system will close two hours later at 3:00 a.m."

When you change your clocks in the fall and spring, it’s also a good time to change smoke detector batteries and check to make sure they are in working order, local fire officials say.

Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa do not observe Daylight Saving.

Around the world, about 75 countries and territories have at least one location that observes daylight saving time, according to TimeandDate.com. On the other hand, 164 don't observe the time change at all.

National Geographic has an interesting history of Daylight Saving and time standardization here
