Blogroll: Whitlow's History, Columbia Pike Streetcar Debate and More

An Arlington-focused roundup of what's being said in the blogosphere.

Ghosts of DC is fast becoming one of my favorite Washington-area blogs. I just always look forward to what kind of photos and history they'll unearth. This week, the site published a vintage photo of the old Whitlow's Restaurant at 11th and E streets NW in the district and tells the story of how Whitlow's on Wilson ended up at its signature location in Clarendon in 1995.

Speaking of history, advocates of the planned Columbia Pike streetcar believe Arlington is poised to make it again — with an ambitious transit- and housing-centric plan akin to what was put in place to guide Arlington's development over the past half-century. Proponents and opponents of the streetcar plan will debate the matter before the Barcroft School and Civic League on Thursday.

Over at Stop Hitting Your Brother, Arlington resident Scott Nathanson details his thought process when one of his sons expresses an interest in joining the Boy Scouts — and the challenges presented by the organization's discriminatory practices against gays and lesbians. (For the sake of full disclosure, I am an Eagle Scout and a huge comic book fan. I won't be buying Orson Scott Card's Superman title, either.)

Ted's Take this week shines the spotlight over on WearPanda, a business founded by a group of Georgetown University graduates. WearPanda, which sells bamboo sunglasses, has a partnership in place to provide an eye or medical examination to a person in need for each pair of sunglasses sold. Go here, and follow the links.

Lots of great blog posts on Arlington Patch and Clarendon Patch again this week. Being Easter weekend, I feel like we have to spotlight Clarendon Moms' Guide to Easter Celebrations. Check it out — there's still time to catch some of these events.

Did you know? Anyone can blog for Patch. On some of our Patches, local bloggers like to post a few paragraphs teasing their own sites and then link out to them. And that's perfectly fine. One of Patch's goals is to be a community hub — and so this this is an effort to showcase some of the contributors to that community.

The following blogroll is a work in progress. We'll be adding to it regularly. Did we miss your favorite? Feel free to suggest local blogs for our list in the comments section below.
