Arlington to Honor 'Women of Vision'

Arlington County will be honoring a few good women on Thursday. 

The county's Commission on the Status of Women will honor its 2013 Women of Vision. They received the awards for their commitment and leadership in the community.

The winners, and their biographies from the commission:

• Government: Katharine Panfil is deeply committed to education, and her career as an educator spans over 30 years and several countries, including principal of Key and Randolph elementary schools.
• Business: Denise Hart, along with another member of Women in Technology, started The Leadership Foundry to increase the number of women on corporate boards in our region.   
• Nonprofit: Linda Denny is an executive with over 30 years of experience in managing for-profit and not-for-profit companies. She has served as president of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council and has been appointed to the National Women’s History Museum board of directors.
• Rising Star: Angela Guzman is director of fundraising and constituent relations at Integrated Direct Marketing. She also has chaired a women’s health organization and helped launch a scholarship program.

The commission works as advocates for economic and social interests of Arlington women, according to the group’s website. The award ceremony is slated for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, 4301 Wilson Blvd.
