The high temperature Friday and Saturday will rocket up above 100 again in Arlington, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Under mostly sunny skies, it may reach 101 degrees. Saturday, temperatures could reach 102 with a mix of clouds and sun. The heat index both days will be above 105 degrees.

Amazingly, the high temperatures on Friday may not break records. The record high at Washington Reagan National Airport for July 6 (Friday) is 103, set in 1999. The record high for July 7 (Saturday) is 102, set in 2010.

These high temperatures are moving in from the Midwest, where Chicago, St. Louis and other cities are baking today.

“A huge area of excessive heat warnings and heat advisories have been issued across the midwest...where the combination of high temperatures and dewpoints will bring heat index values into triple digits and make for extremely dangerous conditions,” according to an advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

“As the ridge expands eastward over the next few days...much of the eastern third of the country will see a resurgence of the record breaking heat experienced last weekend.”

Temperatures will begin to drop (back into the 90s) Sunday, and it may feel downright cold in comparison Monday, with high temperatures in the mid-80s.
