Simple. Classic. Creative.

Introducing the first installment of Clarendon Patch's new cooking correspondent.

In my world, cooking and writing revolve around these three words.

But, who am I and why should you care?

I’m the new recipe columnist for the Clarendon-Courthouse-Rosslyn Patch and foodie blogger behind pb & kelly, my own little haven of culinary staples and successes, where I the keep food easy to make and the posts even easier to read. I’m a 2007 graduate of Virginia Tech and I currently live in Clarendon.  I may or may not have been called “the messy chef” in the past.  I have a borderline obsession with collecting food magazines.  I’ve been cooking since I was a little girl, but really came into my own during college when I would watch Food Network instead of the latest Bravo reality TV show.

In my weekly column, you can expect recipes that are simple, healthy (for the most part!), and don’t require a lot of expertise. I love using fresh ingredients and am always looking for a unique way to update a classic dish. My goal is to produce food that will not only wow you but also the people you’re cooking for. With a little thought and creativity thrown in, you’ll be surprised that even the most basic recipes can be turned into mouth-watering, impressive dishes.

My favorite question to be asked is “What should I make to eat?” Now it’s your turn to ask.  You’ve heard a lot about me…so chime in, give it up, and ask away.  What do you want to learn how to make? What do you find challenging to cook? What’s your culinary guiltiest pleasure that you want to make healthier?  Each week I’m going to answer your questions and show you that cooking can be a simple, classic, and creative experience.  So let’s get cooking – together.  I’m up for it if you are!

In the meantime, try snacking on a few of my go-to recipes.  Hopefully, they will become some of your all-time favorites too.
