Police: Drunk Man Attacks Officers in Shirlington

Officers used Taser to subdue man.

An Arlington man faces three assault charges after police say he attacked them while drunk in a Shirlington hotel.

Jose Miguel Gomez, 24, has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding on law enforcement, attempted malicious wounding on law enforcement and assault and battery on law enforcement.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, three Arlington County officers found Gomez "drunk and passed out" in the lobby of a hotel in the 4200 block of South Campbell Avenue, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

"They woke him up to speak with him," Sternbeck said. "They wanted to speak with him out front. And he started fighting."

Gomez bit one officer on the hand — the officers had gloves on — struck another in the face with a closed fist and gave the other a gash on his forehead that required four stitches to close, Sternbeck said.

The officers used a Taser to subdue Gomez, Sternbeck said.

After that, he was taken into custody without further incident.

Gomez — originally identified by police as Jose Gomez-Morales — remained in jail late Wednesday, according to the Arlington County Sheriff's Office.
