Police: Arlington Man Jailed Following Fight Over $200

Man allegedly pulled knife during altercation

A 19-year-old Arlington man was jailed this week after being accused of beating up his roommate over $200.

Jose Alejandro Mendez-Cruz remained in jail Thursday night following his arrest earlier in the week, according to the Arlington County Sheriff's Office. He is being held without bond.

Authorities say Mendez-Cruz and his roommate began arguing over money shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mendez-Cruz pulled a knife and beat the other man with his fist and the handle of the knife, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The fight eventually ended, with one man going outside and the other staying indoors. Meanwhile, a neighbor called police, Sternbeck said.

The argument started over a matter of $200, he said. Police have found no signs that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Police have not identified the victim, who was treated and released from a local hospital for minor injuries.
