Newly Opened 'World of Beer' Offers International Selection

The World of Beer in Ballston opened to much fanfare last week, with beer enthusiasts already choosing the location as an after work hot spot.
“We are the place where customers can stand, sit, socialize and gather and enjoy a good class beer,” said owner Evan Matz.
The restaurant which highlights craft beers opened up last week was packed Wednesday evening after work hours. The locally-owned franchise at 901 N. Glebe Road which offers 500 bottles of bottled beer and 50 different beers on tap.
“We import beer from over 40 different countries from all over the world,” Matz said. Some of those countries include South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Czech Republic.
Their most expensive offering is a $75 Scaldis Prestige Belgium beer, which is already sold out. The bar offers a limited food selection, but patrons are welcome to order food from surrounding restaurants and have it delivered to their table.
The restaurant includes a loyalty card where drinkers can keep track of beers that they’ve tried and accumulate points to ultimately win a party with free beer. Other specials include Bark Until Dark on Tuesday nights, when patrons can bring their dogs with them on the outside patio and owners get discounts on beers with dog-related names (such as the Flying Dog).
“The difference between us and someone else is that we are all about the beer,” Matz said. “We have a phenomenal selection of beer and we happen to sell food.”
