Morning Fire Leaves One Dead in South Arlington
Investigators aren't ready or able to call the incident storm-related.
An unidentified person died in a morning fire in South Arlington on Tuesday.
The Arlington County Fire Department was called to 2922 S. Buchanan St. at approximately 7:25 a.m., Capt. Gregg Karl said.
Firefighters arrived to find smoking coming from the top floor of a garden-style apartment building, he said.
The fire chief requested a second alarm, he said.
"As they were extinguishing the fire, they found one victim, a fatality," Karl said.
Karl said he had not heard any reports of anyone else being in the apartment before or during the fire. He said he believed it was contained to a single apartment.
The Fire Marshal's Office is working with police on this matter.
Investigators aren't ready or able to say this death was related to Hurricane Sandy, Karl said.
