Arlington Pools Open Memorial Day Weekend

It's the official kick-off to pool season—here's the scoop on swimming pools in Arlington County.

If you plan to live the life aquatic this summer, get ready to dive in. The traditional kick-off to the summer swim season is upon us.

Even though the weather forecast calls for it to be hovering around 70 degrees Monday, Memorial Day, the holiday weekend is a traditional kick-off to the pool season.

Here's a rundown of pools in and around Arlington:

The three indoor public pools in Arlington are associated with each of its high schools: Wakefield, Yorktown in North Arlington and Washington-Lee Aquatics Center in central Arlington. (Click on those links for information about hours, fees, rules and more.)

Each indoor pool offers many options for swimming lessons.

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority manages the Ocean Dunes Waterpark pool at Upton Hill Regional Park, 6060 Wilson Blvd. The pool opens Memorial Day weekend. The hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

From May 28 to June 18, pool hours will be Fridays 3-7 p.m., weekends 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays the pool will be closed until June 19. For information on summer hours visit Upton Hill's Web site.

In addition to the pool, the park also offers a batting cage and mini golf. You can visit the Sand Dune Snack Shack for lunch and snacks.
