1. Steel Drum Live Music Series

When/Where: The show starts at noon Sunday on the waterfront at The Washington Harbour, 3050 K St. NW, Washington, D.C.

Why Go: Even if you can't afford a trip to the Keys, you can mosey on down to the Georgetown waterfront and envision yourself sipping a pina colada by the seaside. Steel drummer Roger Greenidge is here to help. Greenridge performs free, live music on the plaza every Sunday through Oct. 14.

2. Coldplay at the Verizon Center

When/Where: The shows starts at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Verizon Center, 601 F St. NW, Washington, D.C.

Why Go: Coldplay will be performing live at the Verizon Center with opening acts Robyn and Wolfgang this weekend. The band, well known for hits like "Yellow" and "Viva la Vida," is currently touring to promote its most recent album, "Mylo Xyloto."

Pricing: Tickets start at $46.50.

3. Meet and Greet with Metropolitan Police

When/Where: The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Volta Park Recreation Center and Pool, 1555 34th St. NW, Washington, D.C.

Why Go: Meet Officer Atkins of the Metropolitan Police Department on Saturday morning and find out ways to improve neighborhood safety and strengthen ties with the community. The event will take place at the picnic tables at Volta Park. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Safeway Cafe.

4. Outdoor Film: 'The American President'

When/Where: Friday night at dusk at Gateway Park, Lee Highway near the Key Bridge in Rosslyn.

Why Go: The Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival continues this weekend with "The American President," starring Michael Douglas, Annette Bening, Martin Sheen and Michael J. Fox. And mark your calendar for next week: The July 13 outdoor film is "All the President's Men." Don't forget your picnic blankets or lawn chairs!

5. H.P. Lovecraft Double-Feature: 'The Whisperer in Darkness' and 'The Call of Cthulhu'

When/Where: 8 p.m. Saturday at the Artisphere's Dome Theatre

Why Go: Two new films — about 150 minutes — presented by Matson Films and the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. "The Whisperer in Darkness" is shot in in the style of classic 1930s horror films, while Lovecraft's signature story, "The Call of Cthulhu" is a silent film.

Pricing: Tickets are $8.
