I love dogs. I don’t own one. No need, because Arlington is doggy town.

Everywhere I walk I see cute, cuddly dogs. Every size, shape and breed.

Luckily for dog lovers, Arlington is one of the best places to own a pet. You’ve got dog-friendly trails and puppy parks galore. And then there is Wags n' Whiskers, a doggy fest like no other, happening this Saturday in the Village at Shirlington.

This is a pooch-a-palooza. Everything dogs and dog owners like will be on display in Shirlington.

Oh yeah, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, it’s gonna be on like Doggy Kong.

The event will include pet portraits, pet contests, face painting and vendors peddling pet stuff. But most importantly it will be the see-and-be-seen outing for dogs.

Cats are welcome, too. But who cares? Dogs rule. Arlington is all about the dogs.

You can find doggy bags for doggy doo everywhere. You’ve got doggy daycare and dog parks. Even doggy massage.

I don’t see any cat parks. Nobody’s yelling, “Who Let the Cats Out?” That’s because cats disappear all the time, often letting themselves out. Two days later, “Anybody see Spot?”

It’s not a cat-eat-cat world. We don’t have cat days of summer. Doggone it, it’s about Fido and his boys.

Arlington is so dog friendly that it’s considered bad business not to have a fresh bowl of water outside your establishment — just in case a dog gets thirsty.

And these dogs, like Arlington residents, are affluent, well-groomed and well-behaved. I often see people enjoying brunch as their dog sits quietly, not even sniffing for a bone.

People feel comfortable taking their dogs everywhere. I see women with what my son calls “Paris Hilton” dogs in purses in the mall. I once saw a dog with pink and purple fur to match its hairstylist owner.

Arlington even offers services for dogs I don’t see other places. The other day I noticed a sign outside of the Arlington Animal Shelter that stated: “Discover the Mystery of Your Dog’s History. DNA Kits Sold Here.”

I imagined some dogs on the Maury Povich Show: “Skippy, you are NOT the father!”

“Woof?”

I’m looking forward to Saturday and seeing all the dogs, having their day.
