Dems Host Arlington Fundraiser Featuring Sen. Al Franken
Private and general receptions will be held at Ireland's Four Courts restaurant.
The Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus is hosting a fundraiser featuring U.S. Sen. Al Franken on Tuesday at Ireland's Four Courts restaurant in the Courthouse neighborhood.
"We're excited to have well-known and popular political figure U.S. Senator Al Franken come to Northern Virginia to help Democrats keep the Senate majority," Steve Pazmino, caucus executive director, stated in an email to Patch.
"As far as we know, this will be the first time he campaigns for Virginia legislative candidates which should make our event with him even more exciting and successful."
Democratic U.S. Reps. Jim Moran and Bobby Scott, along with state Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw and outgoing Senate Democratic Caucus Chairwoman Mary Margaret Whipple will join Franken for the event.
A private reception will be held from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. for contributors who donate $250 or more, and a general reception will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for those who contribute $50 to $100.
Tuesday's event is the latest high-profile Democratic fundraiser leading up to the Nov. 8 election.
Last week, former President Bill Clinton helped raise $1 million in McLean. In October, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz headlined a fundraiser for the state party at the Clarendon Ballroom.
Update (4:38 p.m.): Will Hailer with the state Senate Democratic Caucus stated in an email to Patch that "Press is not allowed" at the Franken event. Hailer has not yet responded to questions why.

You can blame this enormous unemployment problem on the failure of these leaders in Washington. They continue to allow both legal and illegal immigrants (looking for jobs) to enter our Country in the face of the worst recession ever. This has the biggest impact on people without college education. Time for new leadership.
