VIDEO: Charity Gives Segways to Wounded Warriors
Arlington County Police Department has helped train veterans to use the devices for about two years.
Segs4Vets presented the ubiquitous Washington-area transportation device to more than 50 wounded soldiers and Marines on Wednesday -- several of them in person at a ceremony in front of the Marine Corps War Memorial.
The St. Louis-based charity has donated more than 900 Segways to veterans, many of them amputees. For the past two years, the Arlington County Police Department has volunteered to train the veterans on how to use them.
Spc. William Parker, who lost his left leg to an improvised explosive device in May 2011, was one of Wednesday's recipients. Parker, originally from Pittsburgh, said it took about 20 minutes to learn how to ride the Segway.

I love the fact that the Segway gives mobility without drawing attention to the disability. How wonderful. The "eye contact" comment was an excellent point. Thank you for doing this; we are so indebted to our vets, especially our wounded vets.
