Two Arlington teens spent the summer in Thailand working with elephant conservation groups, building a dam and painting a school.
Sisters Allie Farje, 14, and Doris Farje, 16, traveled there in July as part of Loop Abroad, a summer and spring break program based in Boston that arranges trips for American high school students to visit and volunteer in Southeast Asia.
The siblings spent part of their trip in the village of Hoi Ya, where they taught English and spent some time helping build a dam and paint a school. They also spent part of their four-week trip at the Elephant Nature Park, a conservation group with 40 rescued elephants. The girls helped volunteers feed and bathe the elephants, provide medical care and perform other necessary chores.
Allie and Doris both attend National Cathedral School. Doris will be a junior this year, and Allie will be a freshman.
