Arlington Planning Commission Hearing on Homeless Center Moved to Thursday
County offices are closed Wednesday due to snow.
The commission originally intended to hear the matter tonight, though Arlington county and schools offices are closed thanks to the snow storm.
The hearing is on the county's application — to itself — to put a dormitory in the seven-story building at 2020 14th St. N.
It's part of the larger process of converting two floors of the building into a year-round comprehensive services center. The county bought the building under threat of condemnation for about $27 million in November.
The plan has caused some heartburn to Courthouse-area residents, especially those in the neighboring Woodbury Heights condominium building.
Concerns are primarily related to safety, though some also worry about property values.
The county has held three community meetings to gather feedback and slightly adjust its plans in an attempt to assuage those concerns.
The Arlington County Board will ultimately consider the use permit application at its regular meeting this month, which starts March 16 and concludes March 19.
