U.S. Senate

Defense cuts and political gridlock in Washington were the focal points of the first debate between U.S. Senate candidates — and former Virginia governors — George Allen and Tim Kaine. The debate was in September in McLean. Here’s more on each candidate:

President

President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney have been criss-crossing the commonwealth for months trying to woo swing-state voters. Obama is looking for a repeat victory in the Old Dominion. Romney handily won the Virginia GOP primary against Texas Rep. Ron Paul, though they were the only two candidates on the ballot. Independent candidate Virgil Goode will also be on the Virginia ballot, along with Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

Recent appearances in Virginia by Obama and Romney include:

Here are results from 2008 from the major areas of Northern Virginia when Obama faced Republican John McCain in the presidential election. This does not include third party candidates.

Joe Biden's Air Force 2 delayed our take off in Vegas AND also delayed our landing in Washington. We could see his plane from the left side of our plane while waiting in Vegas. I tried to rally our port side to coordinate mooning Air Force II from the left side of our plane for the delay but everyone feared a Biden moon retaliation so we simply sat on our moons instead.

Just joking. Impressed by both candidates and their VPs. We should all be very proud. I'd like to see some fiscal sanity so leaning one way since just looking for tax reforms (keep it simple) and long term spending reforms.

As far as spending, the fact we've done it in the past should not be important. Each dollar spent needs to have a clear rate of return (or be focused directly on helping the needy with what they need (vs what they want). Namely, we need to reform gov't.
