Arlington Babe Ruth 14U All Stars Trump Vienna

Both teams advance to state tournament.

The Arlington Babe Ruth 14U Division All Stars defeated archrival Vienna All Stars 4-3 behind nearly seven innings of brilliant pitching by Alex Saenz and a total team effort Sunday night at Greenbriar Park in Arlington.

Saenz helped his own cause before ever taking the mound, driving in Parker Denny from second base with the second Arlington run in the opening frame. Offensively, Daniel McCreedy had two hits and two walks and scored a run while Denny had two doubles and a run batted in.

Arlington won the game with its defense by turning two nifty double plays and an outfield assist all involving Denny, Will Burgess and Arthur Speck.

In the final inning, when Saenz had surrendered two Vienna runs on three hits, Speck came in to slam the door on Vienna with three fastballs past their leadoff hitter.

Both Arlington and Vienna advance to the Virginia Babe Ruth State tournament in Manassas this weekend with Arlington playing their first game at 4 p.m. Thursday.
