Nonprofit America 4R Marines Shifts Focus to Veterans Issues

America 4R Marines has always been a very unique organization with 100% volunteer management and 98.6% of funds going directly to our Marines and Sailors.

7 years ago, very little existed in the world of non-profit support to provide supplies and smiles to our deployed units. While many non-profits focused on personal/individual care packages, America 4R Marines sent many needed comfort items and basic supplies to support hundreds of troops throughout each year. “Operation Merry Christmas Marines and Sailors!” was our large scale annual fundraising event. America 4R Marines worked directly with command elements to provide stockings filled with much needed gear and holiday cheer to thousands of deployed Marines and Corpsman in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We are happy to see that now, 7 years later “most” Areas of Operations and Forward Operating Posts have many more amenities than they did back in 2006. With the number of deployed troops declining (but still not diminishing!) each year, our original mission is no longer as urgent as it once was. We are very proud of the impact we have had over the years- touching the lives of tens of thousands of individuals in entire units/battalions. On top of the many tons of supplies sent overseas, America 4R Marines has also raised tens of thousands of dollars to have memorials built on several bases to honor our fallen heroes.

It is time to shift our focus and our mission to where we are needed most. With so many troops coming home from battle with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), there is a severe lack of support, allowing many warriors and their families to fall through the cracks. Our board has been working hard to define the specifics of our new mission and we assure you that you will be the first to know. In a broad sense- we are looking to fill those cracks.

With such a high demand for progress, there are regular advancements in the areas of research and treatment of both the physical and physiological effects of TBI and PTSD. Our plan and goal is to support those that are on the forefront of research/care and bring those in need to those facilities for the most accurate and cutting edge treatment.

In the immediate future, America 4R Marines has put together ‘Team America 4R Marines.’ We have 60 bibs available for the Marine Corps Marathon (Sunday, Oct. 28 in Washington, DC). The last day to register is August 4, 2012. This will be our second year as an official MCM Charity Partner. Col. Todd Desgrosseilliers, Commanding Officer of The Basic School (USMC), is the team captain.
